Things to do in the Stubai Valley

The Stubai valley runs south-west from Innsbruck, about 45 minutes by car or bus, and works as one trip with several separate bases rather than a single destination.

Neustift is the largest village and the usual base for families and glacier trippers; Fulpmes and neighbouring Telfes sit closer to the valley's climbing and via ferrata terrain; the Stubai Glacier itself, at the valley's head, is the highest and coldest option and the only spot with summer skiing. In summer the valley is hiking and via ferrata country, with huts and cable cars typically running from June to September.

In winter it pairs glacier skiing with lower valley slopes, though many lifts and mountain restaurants close completely between mid-April and late May and again in November, so check each one's dates before planning a day around it rather than assuming the whole valley is open.
