Things to do in Innsbruck's old town

Innsbruck's old town is walkable straight from the station or any central hotel, so there is no transport to plan: the Goldenes Dachl, the Hofburg, the Hofkirche and the Stadtturm all sit within a few hundred metres of each other along narrow, arcaded streets.

In summer the pace is café terraces and slow loops between the squares; in winter it shifts to Christmas markets that run from around mid-November to early January across several spots, including the old town itself and Maria-Theresien-Straße.

Even in January a südlich Föhn wind can push temperatures up and clear the sky within hours, turning a grey market afternoon bright without warning. Expect narrow lanes to get crowded on market weekends, and pay in euros with prices as marked, VAT included.
