Things to do in the Ötztal

The Ötztal runs west from Innsbruck along the Inn valley; check current regional train or driving times before you go, since schedules vary by season. This is the orientation page for the whole valley, which fans out to Sölden, AREA 47, the AQUA DOME thermal spa at Längenfeld and Imst, each covered on its own page.

One warning worth repeating: Ötzi, the prehistoric mummy, was found on the Italian side of the Ötztal Alps in 1991 and is displayed in Bolzano, Italy, not anywhere in this valley. In winter the draw is skiing, above all Sölden and its glacier area; in summer it shifts to canyoning in the Auerklamm and Alpenrosenklamm gorges and whitewater rafting.

Despite sharing a mountain range with it, the Ötztal is firmly in Austrian Tyrol, not South Tyrol (Südtirol) in Italy, which lies over the Brenner on the other side of the Alps.
