Things to do on the Nordkette

The Nordkette is the reason Innsbruck can promise high mountain terrain minutes from a city street: three linked cable cars take you from the centre to 2,256 m at Hafelekar in about 20-25 minutes, and no other European city centre has an ascent this fast.

A Nordkette return ticket covers all three stages together, not one cabin, starting with the Hungerburgbahn funicular to Hungerburg (stations by Zaha Hadid, 2007), then the Seegrubenbahn, then the Hafelekarbahn.

In winter the Nordkette's slopes are one of the areas linked by the Olympia SkiWorld Innsbruck pass; in summer the draw is hiking and the view over the Inn valley to the Karwendel range opposite. What you find waiting at each station is covered on its own page.
